I think Cali was about six months old when she came to us. My wife and I are both allergic to cats, but my high school-age niece, Cali's owner, was a victim of domestic abuse and we sheltered her in our home. Cali was part of the deal. We couldn't keep Cali in our house due to our allergies, so we converted a small building on our lot into a bedroom. Cali lived there while my niece finished high school, and summered with us while my niece was in college. My niece took a job out of state and my son became Cali's owner. He moved into the small building and lived there with Cali for years. But my son moved out of state and left Cali with us, thinking he'd return for her in a month. He has mental health problems and can only afford to live with many housemates. He was all set to bring Cali home when a severely allergic new housemate moved in. That was eight months ago. So for eight months Cali's been living a very solitary life. We hoped to re-home her with family, but only have one relative in the region. My son realized that Cali will have a better life with a family that can spend time with her like normal cat owners do. I'm retired and look after her --feeding, brushing, playing. Sometimes I let her sit on my lap. But soon my eyes start itching. I have to immediately wash up and put my clothes in the laundry, so honestly I avoid close contact with her. I open the window on her "house" and she has a ramp to come and go as she wishes during the day. At night I shut the window to protect her from predators. She has a space heater and a heated bed so she stays cozy. She's become a bit skittish due to limited human interaction. Sometimes my daughter visits and spends hours doting on Cali, but that's about it. She definitely warms up to people once she's used to them. She used to steer clear of me for reasons I can't explain. But now that I'm the one providing most of her care, she craves my affection. It saddens me that I don't have more capacity to give. I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and the smallest tasks exhaust me sometimes. I can't handle constantly cleaning up cat hair or further stressing my immune system. I hope someone who truly loves and enjoys cats will adopt Cali. She deserves more than my wife and I can offer. Cali would do well indoors but is allowed outside currently. Rehoming fee is $40
